Iz da Pope! Gregory the Great and Jerome

Look here. I'll show you.

Protestants often disregard the authority of the Pope by asking, "Where is that in the Bible?"  Authority of course, comes from Christ himself in Matthew 16:19 when he says to Peter, "you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church.."  So began a long unbroken line of pontiffs from then until the present day.

In the late 4th century, Pope St. Damasus commissioned St. Jerome the unwieldy task of compiling all the books of the Bible from the best Greek and Hebrew sources of the time into Latin. For 15 years St Jerome toiled and has produced what we now refer to as the Latin Vulgate. Today the Latin Vulgate is still held in high esteem by Protestants and Catholics alike. The Latin Vulgate is ever present and still influences Bible translations in many sectors of Christian society.
