A musical Pope!
Pope Gregory the Great promoted sacred music and it is believed that the Gregorian Chant originated from his time, so perhaps this is why he is depicted here with a rather long strip of music. He is also shown holding a book as, he published several books.
He suffered many infirmities, but continued on with his work, always practicing what he preached.
